Samuel Obono Jr Poems

I am my father's son
fruit of his loins
morning of many a night
an end to his travails
...

She has come to us
in the wispers of the dry tornado
that sweeps through the hills
and valleys of our hearts
...

A sacrificial lamb
lies ready
wisdom is tethered about its neck
so it dare not run
...

Here she lied
broken
on bare earth
face against the sun
...

In this darkness my mind peers
I behold men rendered blind
caressed by their own fears
fettered by their own kind
...

Will i be forgotten?
When my pen no longer bleeds
from a heart, drumming
the rhythms of love and passions
...

My face wears a reminiscent smile
yet i cry her a river
i see her walk down that glorious aisle
The Father, glad to receive her
...

the grandstand
graced with greed
a design of deprivation
a backdropp of betrayal
...

We were but victims
to seduction
bamboozled by our lusts
again and again
...

The chameleon
who play colour tricks
knows why
The snake
...

Like drops of water
from a leaking roof
the bride
no longer could hold
...

Mould the world
but leave it rough
shape the world
but trim not the edges
...

I am the past - reticent
ensnared in the sepulchre of time
I am the great forebodings of today
and the mystery I enshroud
...

14.

The umbilical cord
refutes the blade of the midwife
now the infant is cursed
the serpent's head remain unbruised
...

15.

'Rewa
what a spectacle to behold!
The secrets of your splendour remain untold
evergreen
...

You stand to be stoned
you who stand alone
like a stray dog
prosecuted for bone
...

From a distance fair
I watched
like the lion watches its prey
ready to devour
...

18.

People will forever-
be people
so hang yourself
and die
...

When Mr. Khaki ruled us
his four-mouthed koboko
terrified the four regions
he said his business was law and order
...

No longer
shall you remain
a suckling
needing milk
...

The Best Poem Of Samuel Obono Jr

I Am My Father's Son

I am my father's son
fruit of his loins
morning of many a night
an end to his travails
in his eyes I am made;
the mirror of an unlived adventure
son of a sun
emblem of generations past

I am my father's son
strength of his grey hair
his joy at sunset
the memoirs of a lost youth

my father is a king
needing no crown or regalia
that makes me an heir
to the throne of meekness
