Rowan Truebody Poems

I dare to believe that the sun will come out
I dare to have faith that the time is right
For me to reach the top of my game
To say goodbye to heartache and pain
...

When it all goes pear shaped, when it all feels wrong
Do you stand and fight, keep going on and on
Isn’t it better to walk away, throw in the towel
Give up the fight, show a white flag
...

Is this a way to behave at your age?
What are you doing? You can’t keep pace
Be sensible, grow up, sort out your life
Look at yourself, the condition you’re in
...

Death doesn’t faze me, the dying man said
It’s a welcome release
The end of this trial, he said as he smiled
...

The voices in my head are shouting, creating a cacophony
Vying for first place, louder and louder and louder
Like an orchestra building to a crescendo
Screaming, shouting “don’t do this, don’t do that”
...

Small minded people, with minds filled with mush
They whinge and they moan, about nothing so much
At the things that don’t matter, don’t matter a jot
They talk and they talk, saying nothing, not a lot
...

Started so tiny, so small, so in need
Wanted it all, infantile greed
Curious and interested, hands everywhere
Teach me! Tell me! Show me!
...

Drunk as a skunk in Camden Town
You stood and watched it all go down
You found the stop and made the call
fell on your knees, got back on your feet
...

A thing, a miracle, just happened to me,
The sun came out in the middle of the night
The moon did somersaults over the second star to the right
I found out something I never knew
...

Maybe this time

Maybe this time it will be different
Maybe this time I come out on top
...

Why is it always me? What don’t they see?
I never seem to be enough, don’t quite make the grade
I get offered something, then it seems to fade
Always second best, never win the race
...

No light without dark
No joy without pain
Whatever might happen
Dance in the rain
...

So long ago, you entered my world
Told me to fly and look up at the stars
I laughed, I said that all was fine
But I was lying – you read my mind
...

I wish you could see, the way that I do
Back down the years
When it was just me and you
...

Unseen tears are never cried, they fall in the dark, silent, alone
At the times when not even hope is left at home,

The world goes dark, the pillows still wet
...

Walk away, don’t look back, that’s the advice
So why oh why do I always think twice?
Is it love, hate or over-developed sense of duty
That sends me rushing in to fix it all
...

What a lovely rhythm has the words Friday night
Their promise of everything still to come
Liberty, freedom, laughter and fun
Got to ask
...

18.

Like a seeping fog that has no end
As if from nowhere confusion swoops down
Wrapping me up like a mummified corpse
Blinding me to reason, to reality, to sense
...

Dare To Believe

I dare to believe that the sun will come out
I dare to have faith that the time is right
For me to reach the top of my game
To say goodbye to heartache and pain

I dare to believe that for the very first time
I will truly get what I want to be mine
And no, it’s not a never ending love
Nor even a fortune dropped from above

No, I dare to believe that I’m all right
That I’m the best that’s ever been
The smartest, the funniest, the best overall
I dare to believe in myself, that’s all.
