He arrived with only the clothes on his back;
His toys, his tags, his people, all lost.
Even so, he remembers his manners:
He accepts a biscuit so gently.

What's troubling the bees?
Reports come back to the hive,
The messengers glum, nothing good,
No one feels like dancing:

My back against the warm old oak,
I look out on a perfect day
And watch the spring wind come to play again
On the wide field, the beckoning field,
...

When I was on the earth I was of it
With all my being at every moment.
The rich smells of the woods filled me from nose to tail
As we walked up the hill in the morning.

At dawn the night wind slept
And the night rain subsided
Into mist and silence.

Rescue Dog

He arrived with only the clothes on his back;
His toys, his tags, his people, all lost.
Even so, he remembers his manners:
He accepts a biscuit so gently.

When he is told to stay and guard the house,
He seems to understand but still
Doesn't want the door to close between us:
Perhaps just my nose could go with you?

Before my old Molly died she said
I want only to be with you.
After a while I put away
Her ashes and her things.

Today he and I will go to the park,
Then I will brush him and give him his supper.
I will read in my chair, he will lie at my feet:
Two old dogs who have lost everything.
