The Blues - Poem by Langston Hughes

When the shoe strings break
On both your shoes
And you're in a hurry-
That's the blues.

When you go to buy a candy bar
And you've lost the dime you had-
Slipped through a hole in your pocket somewhere-
That's the blues, too, and bad!

I like a light-heated poem occasionally. It's good for the soul to be reminded that simple everyday frustrations need to be left behind us with a laugh and a shake of the head. It's good for the human race to be reminded that, be we American, French, Arab, or Eskimo, we have experienced similar frustrations as well as deep joys and deep sorrows. (Report) Reply

This is a good poem, but Langston Hughes wrote many poems better than this one. Too bad one of them was not chosen instead. (Report) Reply

Brought a smile to the face.. haven't we so many similar situations.. (Report) Reply
