Your Last - I Will Not Cry Poem by Rachel Henley

Your Last - I Will Not Cry

I wanted to write you something today.
A truth, an ode, maybe even a sonnet.
But I cannot mask the hurt you left with well wishes.
I don't feel like calling you beautiful,
I don't want to tell you what I think about your smile.
I shall be transparent to you.
It was not love and no, you do not care.
If you did, you would not leave
and if you, you would not go.

Oh, what do I want to plant on your lips?
Mine? Or white clenched knuckles.
I accept what I felt was real,
but I also acknowledge what you said you felt-
wasn't.

No one in love, with love, would let it die.
So for a liar, I will not cry.

I cannot smile back, at what was.
It was not real, it was not romance,
it was silly, silly manipulations of me and you.
