You Want Me To Move My Vanity Poem by Stephanie Eve Kane Arado

You Want Me To Move My Vanity

Gold painted glass vanity stacked with
DVDs and Videos Tapes
Veggie Tales Bob and Larry
Showing off clever Morality
Almost saying…hey let’s sneak in some Jesus
If it’s very clever no one will notice
Harrison Ford wise-cracking his way
Through space, tombs and Amish villages
Virtuous Princess floating through towns and forests
Deserving of a happily ever after
Redeemed Grinches
Heatmiser/Cold Mister, Rankin Bass creations
Christmas Vacation
The grand old days of Charlton Heston’s 10
And Vivian Lee’s Tara
Now neatly packed in grey storage bins
My Vanity is now transparent and can be
Deconstructed.
Handle carefully.
Glass shatters when subjected to rough handling
Or high-pitched screaming
Tucked away, my vanity leans.
On a light pole at the bus stop.
Pictures of romance, adventure and tragedy
Had covered her surfaces
Now she’s clear. Awaiting relocation.
