You Say You See Me Poem by oluwakemi amusan

You Say You See Me

You say you see me
But what do you see
Yes I have got on the attire of a princess
But do you see the self inflicted cuttings it has been designed to cover

You say you see me
But who do you see
A happy go lucky girl
Or one who must keep up the smile
To hide the anguish

You say you see me
But how do you see
Do you see a woman highly in control
Or one who with a dangerous fear of letting go

You say you see me
But when do you see
Do you catch me when my muscle is strained a bit just to keep the smile on
And that dark shadow passes my countenance for the briefest of moments
When my voice quivers in the middle of an introduction and my shoulder droop as memory takes me to that dark place of the soul

If you must you see me
Then you must really see me
