You'Re Out There Poem by Kailee Falvo

You'Re Out There

It was your idea to join
Yes, you are doing it for a good cause,
But it’s dangerous out there.
When you left for that hellhole,
I cried and cried
Because I only wanted you to be the solider
Who fought away monsters and bad dreams.
But now your fighting a war where tickels
Don’t create peace; blood does.
Remember playing war outside with me?
Where your only dangers were those jelly darts?
When your arm got shot off, you put it behind you?
Where you had unlimited lives?
And peace was met by hugs and tickles?
But I guess you got tired of that, and left.
So know, you’re out there.
Fighting a real war, and your in real danger.
And now, if your arm gets shot off, it’s not going behind you
It’s landing on the ground next to possibly your friend that is lying face down
Dead in the bloody battlefield.
You don’t have unlimited lives this time.
You have one, and you’re out there?
Just be careful, because I want to play war with you one more time.
-Dedicated to my cousin Chris Yingling-
