You May Know Of The Trappings Poem by Francis Duggan

You May Know Of The Trappings

You may know Of the trappings of wealth and renown
And by many the most admired one in the town
Own your own thriving business drive a top of the range car
But this does not tell us anything of the person you are

Is there room for compassion in your mind
And do you have it in you to be generous and kind
To help the one who of your help is in need
If this be so you are a good person indeed

And if to your higher self you remain as true
Then credit for that is surely your due
There is more to living life than me, myself and i
Those who tell you different believe their own lie

Since there are many greedy and wealthy people in the Human World of today
Your wealth and material possessions to me of you nothing say
But for those doing it tough if you feel empathy
It shows what a good person that you must be.
