You Ask What Is An Achievement Poem by Francis Duggan

You Ask What Is An Achievement

What is an achievement you ask anyway
'Tis an achievement for me to get out of bed every day
Though I don't suffer of a handicap just lazy 'twould seem
And laziness is not good for one's sense of self esteem.

On what is an achievement ask one other than me
Since amongst the successful big egos I see
Ask one who is wise who on life has a broader view
Though that sort of person to say the least few.

What is an achievement ask one who might know
Such a thing on the bushes and trees does not grow
Though many high achievers that most look on as great
Are people that I for one don't celebrate.

You ask what is an achievement I would not have a clue
Though I try to give credit to where I feel it is due
And anyway my opinion little weight seem to hold
I have not been growing wiser though I am growing old.
