You And I, Dog Poem by Alexzia Ferdinand

You And I, Dog

dog, you and your lonely howl
fail to affect me, though
haunting, i walk on by
because dog, you and i
we're so different
your forlorn eyes
tracing my movements don't
touch my heart, though clear and seeking
i cannot stop, for dog,
you and i could not be more different
the bone that you nudge in my direction
doesn't compel me to love you
although the gesture is sweet,
sorry dog, we're so different
you and i
but dog, the cage that you sit in
that's familiar and you're alone
surrounded but desolately
remorsefully, and unmistakably
alone

...You know dog, you and me
we're more similar than you might think
