You Poem by Cynthia Carpenter

You

Rating: 3.5

looking into your eyes at the end of the day
drop to my knees i begin to pray
that you be there for me like i was for you
anything for you i would do
be there to hold your hand
the pain you feel i understand
i will be there always in your life
as your bestfriend, your lover maybe even your wife
but to do this you have to let me in
don't let the pain of your lonlieness win
i'm always here when you need me
forever in love i hope we will be

The title of this poem YOU strikes me as the essence of the poem. As a title it is the exact opposite of MY DARK PRINCE. YOU is the most direct address possible, it is completely unadorned without any cosmic imagery. And so instead of creating a visionary scene. this poem deals in everyday realities. Which is truly where love begins and from which it will either grow or wither. The speaker's concern about her partner's isolation shows two things - her loving care and his need to open up - and out. Ah, the challenge of love!

'anything for you i would do be there to hold your hand the pain you feel i understand' - So nice! 'i'm always here when you need me forever in love i hope we will be' - Innocent promises of love pristine!
