Yosakoi Soran- Haiku Poem by Elena Sandu

Yosakoi Soran- Haiku

Gift of everything
Evening dance created time
For smiles, rehearsal.

'Evening dance created time'
comes from the witnessing of a touching moment.
The stage was coloured, full. Loud drums and flutes. In front of the watching crowd, a woman was struggling to keep her phone up,
she was in a video call, camera facing the stage caught
dancing people, while on the other side of the call the screen shown a young man on a hospital bed, he took off his oxygen mask, smiled and tried to mimic a dance movement raising his arms.
That evening, Yosakoi dance festival, created smiling time for the young man in a hospital.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Every year, in June for a few days, the streets of Sapporo are filled with music and dance. Hundreds of Yosakoi dance groups are sharing their amazing energy. Over 25 thousand people- students, workers, even mothers holding less than 12 months babies or over 80 years old grandparents, most of them are using every minute of their free time to rehearse their dances, for many hours, every week an entire year. Other than hard work and dance, the common thing of every team is 'Smile'.
