Yos Sudarso Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Yos Sudarso

Rating: 2.5

A commodore, who was commanding
The Indonesian torpedo ship Macan Tutul (Leopard)
When it was sunk by the Dutch warships
In Aru Sea in January 1962

Three Indonesian torpedo ships
Were tasked to land 115 insurgents
In an invasion of West Papua
Which was still controlled by the Dutch

They were confronted by two Dutch destroyers
He realized that the battle was up
He manoeuvred his ship in such a way
As to draw the Dutch fire

Allowed other two ships to escape unharmed
The KRI Macan Tutul was sunk
And 51 survivors were rescued
But he went down with his ship
