Yesterday's Life Poem by Thomas Noel Smith

Yesterday's Life

I remember when that “long ago”
Was merely yesterday
And all my bright tomorrows
Seemed so far away

When time was frozen in midair
Like a shroud of creeping gloom
And ghosts danced ghastly patterns
On the ceiling of my room

Clouds were always overhead
And I never dared to dream
Of pure blue skies and perfect days
That wasn’t nature’s scheme.

The boundaries of my throbbing life
Were all the hopes I knew
Darkened days defined my soul
Until I first met you.
