Xenocentrism Must Vanish Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Xenocentrism Must Vanish

Discrimination against one’s own native land;
Always with welcoming favor to foreigners.
O why not be determined and make a firm stand?
Why not help and be with your brothers and sisters?

From native springs, you learned how sweet the water is.
Your ancestors tilled and cared for the native soil.
Where did you first discover your delight in cheese?
Where did you first know and feel the smoothness of oil?

You are so favored to be just right where you are
No matter what kind of a culture you now have.
If changes must be made, then don’t run away far.
Instead, share your thoughts and give motherland your love.

Remember the first time you swore to your nation
An oath of faithfulness, not discrimination.
