Wronger And Righter

In 'A Branch Of The Service'*,
the revelation that he left till he was nearly dead,
Graham Greene said,
'Another watcher was stationed in sight of the door who would take over when he left, ...'

'A dog on a dray which was eating a cake'
is wronger than
'A man on a dray who was...',
but 'A man who was...' and 'A dog which was...'
'eating a cake on a dray'
are righter than either, I'd say.
