Writing Poem by Stephen Holland

Writing

I thought in my innocence that since I had penned
A novel, a story with a twist at the end
That people would clamour to read my own story
And I could be famous and bask in my glory
But then I was chastised for my doubtful grammar
And the story was clouded for some in that manner
I find that the sequel is poorly received
As far as the sales of my book are perceived

I wanted to write and though I’m not clever
Enough to be claiming the role of ‘best-seller’
I hoped that my writing might please just a few
Or even by worthy of a positive review
I wanted to write but it’s now clear to me
You need a salesman’s pitch or a marketing degree
And since I have neither, it seems I have penned
My literary obituary and that means the end!
