World Elephant Day Poem by Dr John Celes

World Elephant Day

Elephants are on rampage these days!
They go in search of water and food;
Who opened the woods to our place?
We human beings are to blame.

Elephants destroy plantain crops;
They roam inside the tea-estates,
Attacking people who stray near,
Beat them to death like bamboo-sticks!

Elephants were eating only grass;
They are lured by the smell of jack-fruits;
They do not like to be teased at all;
Their trumpet noise can scare lions!

Leave elephants in their forests dense;
Don't cut the forests down for wood;
Let them live in their habitats;
Don't kill them for ivory tusks!
