World Cup Poem by Juan Olivarez

World Cup

It's myriads of colors
Beautiful rich colors
Neon yellow, green, orange,
And blue footwear.

It's a pageant of uniforms
A rainbow indeed.
All the worlds colors
On a world stage.

It's strong hearts
Healthy, vibrant hearts
The most magnificent hearts
On the planet.

It's legs
Young Spartan legs
Tireless legs, invincible legs
Olympic legs, divine legs
The perfect combination
Of sinew, muscle and bone.

And the worshipers
The true believers
Always faithful, always vocal
Ready to die at an instant
For their Gods.

A spectacle
Like no other
The world, at least for today
Finds peace.
The World Cup.
