Wistful Wishes Poem by Half Past

Wistful Wishes

one penny in hand and ready to throw
standing by the pond in its midnight glow
his little mind racing with thoughts of wonder
his little hands were giddy as riches he did ponder
a new bicycle..a game..an action figure..or a cd
his smile did broaden with anticipatory glee
everything he wanted was one throw away
yet what to wish for in this late hour on this very day
a pogo stick..a licorice whip..or a bb gun
his father did watch the petting of the penny by his son
come on junior..we are going to be late
one more second dad..i still have my wish to make
he tossed his penny high in the air
and closed his eyes without despair
his wish was made...his position set
and in the morning his dream he did get
peace for the people and throughout the land
the wishes of the world in one small boy's hand
