Wish Unanswered Poem by Saranya Sachdev

Wish Unanswered

As the golden grains seep through,
The waves arrive to carry them away,
Amongst the grains was a wild Pearl,
That I wished would stay.
As the flowers in the garden wilted,
They brought Nyx into the day,
Amongst the flowers was a red Rose,
That I wished would stay.
As the birds flew away with the wind,
The glowing sun lost its ray,
Amongst the birds was a Nightingale,
That I wished would stay.
As the people left for the Asphodel Fields,
I was left drowning in disarray,
Amongst the people was my James,
That I so wished would stay.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
NOTES:
1. Wild Pearl - A wild pearl is a natural, smooth, and perfectly round, making it extremely rare to find (also known as ideal/perfect pearls) . Imitation pearls, cultured pearls, or farmed pearls have poor quality and iridescence in comparison to wild pearls.
2. Nyx - Nyx is a Greek deity, a representation/personification of night and darkness.
3. Red rose - Red roses have been ancient symbols love and beauty (Classical Era, Greek, Islam)
4. Nightingale - Nightingales are birds, known for their ability to produce enticing sounds, often used in literature for this reason. (i.e. Nightingale's song)
5. The Fields of Asphodel - In Greek mythology, the dead were either good, evil, or average/ordinary. The average souls stayed in the Fields of Asphodel.
