Wise Man Old Joe Poem by Francis Duggan

Wise Man Old Joe

I often recall the wise words of wise man Old Joe
He said if you do not have a friend you do not have a foe
In retrospect that does make great sense to me
Since your once best friend can become your worst enemy
Some very good friendships have come to a bitter end
And more than likely your greatest enemy was once your trusted friend
When good friendships do end only bitterness remain
Why this has to be is not hard to explain
You may not like one that you only visually know
But your dislike for that person to hatred never will grow
But out of good friendships bad enemies are made
It always does happen when trust is betrayed
If you do not have a friend you do not have a foe
The wise words of one known as wise man Old Joe.
