Wisdom As Such Poem by Francis Duggan

Wisdom As Such

I recall from my young years I've often heard said
That a wise young person on his or her shoulders must have an old head
Doubtless in such a saying there's truth to be found
Though wise people in numbers not known to abound.

Why bother to ask me since I wouldn't know why
That wisdom to age never seems to apply
I do know some aged people in their ways so small
From living they have learned little at all.

But having said that it does seem fair to say
That most people are good in their own sort of way
But that wisdom comes with age to argument gives rise
I know ageing people and all of them are not wise.

I know many may say that I have it all wrong
That wisdom to a young person cannot belong
Still I feel wisdom as such cannot be bought or sold
And it does not belong to the young or the old.
