Wisdom Poem by Armadillo Poet

Wisdom

Any great wizard can teach
The hardest lesson to learn
Is not to forget the past
But to let go of it
In the right direction:
The correct course
Being backwards.

The first moment-the most recent-
A submerging emptiness
Soured with sorrow
And numbed teeth clenching
After screaming and howling-
Mewling.

A ferocious burst of slurring anger
In a delirium chasing shot
After shot
After glass of whiskey
After bottles of champagne
And bottled jealousy.

But before night there were oysters

Then talk about the meal for days,
Then weeks, then months...for over a year

Many smaller outbursts
Dot the memory of shellfish,
Gifts, and other sweet moments.
But they disappear between naps
And a growing anticipation of a time of
Smiling, of rings, and of crying infants.

Then a slow fading
Of liquored licking and biting...
Lips...that become softer
And more shy...

All leading finally to a condition
Of barely being able to think life is real...
After a first kiss and a locking of eyes that
Never meet again.

This is what Merlin wished of the dragon.

Nice - liked your use of delirium - confusional state. I may be there in that slow fall - " All leading finally to a condition. Of barely being able to think life is real..." Thanks for the poem.
