Winter And Summer Poem by Deirbhile Roberts

Winter And Summer

Rating: 3.0

I wake early one morning The frost creeping up my window A breath of wind chills my bones and sends a wave of goose-bumps over my body I ready myself for the day I jump and prance down the steps, I watch the clouds slowly dancing across the sky uncovering the sun; Its rays are feeble and weak I drag my head inside yet my mind has seemed to stay I shovel corn-flakes into my mouth a small stream of milk forming down my chin I yank on my woolen beanie and gloves I stride out into the brilliant white, the snow enclosing my boots. As I reach the deserted streets I stare in entrancement at the ice encased the city, The wind whips and lashes my face My lips freeze As I reach the ice covered park I make my mark in the park, I retreat for home The freezing wind writhes and curls down my back I reach the gate and realize That my summer has started The sun has brightened its strengthening rays licking and grazing the windows and grass Melting the snow and ice
My granny's winter has passed and my summer has come The flowers bloom and trees blossom.
