Winter Poem by Barry Middleton

Winter

this time of year
old trees sense fear

their leaves are fallen
their power stripped

they cannot know
if spring will come

all existence
wants to go on living

the planets cry out
against the cold

now the old men
think about death

as the old trees
fall without notice

and in the end
embrace the earth
