Window Shopping Poem by Jaishree Nair

Window Shopping

Rating: 5.0

Decided to go shopping;
A vision of overdue bills zooming;
Waved away the thought looming,
Just window shopping-she thought.

Entered a shopping mall;
A peep here; a glance there -enthralled;
Exclaimed over a rare piece of antiquity,
Wondered at the hands skilled; fanatically.

Saw a carry bag refined,
With rainbow coloured beads lined;
Astounded at the price tag-
Envied the future owner.

Entered a boutique rare,
The girl sales smiled expectant,
Commission on sale sure expected,
Misled by my expensive style fair,
Truth hidden in the emptiness of my purse bare.

Visited a jewellery showroom,
Ornaments studded with stones rare-
To grace a neck fair,
Admiration inexplicable with exhilaration bubbled up.

A mental satisfaction of inner peace,
A muddle of riddles decreased
A chord twanged to tune,
Heart sang like a queen.

A day well spent,
Devoid of headaches!
Enjoyment at no price,
Exhilaration priceless! !

You have sung well about the beauty of window-shopping to which most people these days are sort of addicted. It is indeed a day well-spent as the window-shopper didn't waste money on unnecessary luxury.
