Will This Swing Ever Stop? Poem by Desikan Srinivasan

Will This Swing Ever Stop?

I get down from the train and begin to walk towards those rails.
The confused and colorful evening sky welcomes with the lone bright star.
The thin net of darkness is descending all over.
You surround me like a thread and chain me.
Should I be bound or cut across? Am I capable or not?
The train speeds past me, echoing the siren in my ear.
People, people … Scattered all over are people!
The old man who wanted to know the time, is quite baffled by my answer!
My shoulder now pains with your sweet little punches…
Yet, thinking of you itself is a pleasurable pain.
These rails lying straight ahead of me with those small black stones and wooden plank,
Are they leaving me or coming to me! ?
Beneath that lonely star and the sky, that house looks like pencil line drawing.
The non-moving frozen coconut trees suggest a melancholy,
Not understanding my oscillations my agony and ecstasy
Again the lovely breeze, the romantic twilight
You surround me……
I stop to leave the rails; the road has come.
It is time to pay attention to the world; dream later…
But
With reasoning pushing this side and emotions pushing the other side,
Will this swing ever stop?
