Wife Is Love

“Helloooo there! ” O my God her- SCENT-
Intoxicates my nerve endings, I tingle from head to toe!
Her walk, her stride, her high heels, I'm spent
Flashback of me through her path to a newer life!
I was: I am: I will be: -LIKE-
A slow dried cactus dying from -THIRST-
Whose core punctured by many holes
Fate snaps the bridge to its roots deep below
Death on the surface, then deep below: or suddenly -BOTH-
Alas! Absent are want and -NEED-
Want: to be desired, the nature of life
Need: to be wife is - LOVE-

Poem of the Day

poet Charles Stuart Calverley

He stood, a worn-out City clerk —
Who'd toil'd, and seen no holiday,
