Wickham Park 6am Poem by Patrick Dennis

Wickham Park 6am

A gaggle of ragged folk gather around
the Salvo van at the edge of the park.
One catches my eye -
he radiates the agnostic look of the lost.

The rest:
it's sunup
the Coffee God here
it's Prime.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A snapshot of the homeless. Their thankfulness for sunup and a cup of coffee is a prayer of gratitude, One of them is new to the streets and has not yet been anointed with the balm of forgetting.

Prime is the first of the canonical hours when, in monasteries, prayers are said. It is the ancient beginning of the day - sunup or 6AM.
