Why Is The Door Closed? Poem by Ali Rahimi

Why Is The Door Closed?

Why is the door closed?
Are you invited? Are you summoned?
Are you welcomed?
Do you want to see what’s behind that door?
If you go to the street and all the doors are closed,
If you go to their institute or establishment, and the doors are closed,
What will you do?
Why is the door closed?
You don’t belong? You are an unwanted undesirable stranger? Isn’t it antisocial?
You feel like a gooseberry? or wizened eggplant?
They treat you as an outsider, or an invader?
Yes the doors are closed,
An outcast you are,
An-intruding-toxic-agent-to-be-always-avoided individual,
Isn’t it discourteous? Isn’t ill-mannered?
Why is the door closed?
Why is the door closed?
Why is the door closed?
Why is the door closed?
You may say: ‘’oh no, no, God, please help me out of this plight’’
You might mull it over and say ‘’Shame! , No hospitality! , Why are they so mean to me’’?
You might walk away, you might get melancholic,
Sad as a verb? Sad as a noun? Or sad as a preposition?
Or sad as a woman having her fourth miscarriage? Oh no, another still-born child?
Or, you contemplate other options?
Why is the door closed?
What’s going on behind the closed doors?
You feel you are excluded, discriminated against,
Why so much secrecy? Why so much lunacy?
Why so much mystery? Why so much complexity?
No clarity, no transparency, no accountability,
Yes, the idiots are behind closed doors,
Why is the door closed?
Determining your fate? Deciding your lifestyle, dictating your discourse,
But, there is the flip of side of this scenario,
I put my foot in doors, yes, I certainly do,
I knock at the doors, or even kicked the doors open,
I push the door open, door in face, door in face, face to face!
I am brave as a mountain lion, brave as a titan, brave as Hercules!
Why is the door closed?
I will shout at the top of my liberal strong voice,
Here I am, brother, sister! look at me!
I am not a closet queer! I am not a secret drinker!
I am not hidden criminal! I am not a veiled monster,
I am not a camouflaged drug addict!
I am not an invisible thief! I am not a covered womanizer!
I am not a shrouded liar,
Why is the door closed?
Yes darling, look at me
Not in fear and awe, I don’t want you to be frightened,
I don’t intimidate you into obedience like those nerds,
Here I am, brother, sister! Hearken!
I own the recipe to happiness,
I know the formula to well-being,
I show you the path to prosperity,
I have the doors of perception,
I take you to the doors of insight,
I offer you the doors of self-confidence and self-esteem,
I lead you to the doors of love and emotions,
I open the doors of truth and true faith,
All doors open to you! Welcoming you, waiting to lovingly embrace you!
Why is the door closed?
