Why I Write Poem by Lissa Rose

Why I Write

I write to escape
I fall into worlds that are beyond others comprehension
And dream of people
Who haven't come to exist
I live for the words that roll off my tongue
Like black velvet
Silky and smooth
As they wrap around my thoughts
In an endless array of babbled nonsense
I yearn for the passion that sends young hearts
to gracefully descend to their knees
Sighing as the pray for the day
They feel as loved
They feel as wanted
They feel as seen
I cry for the sorrow
That pours fragile tears into oceans of nothingness
Only to drown in a despair so deep
Only the incessant voice in the back of our minds can save us
As it screams
ITS NOT REAL
ITS NOT REAL
Over and over again
As if the lie will somehow protect our broken hearts
From drifting away in the arctic wind
Never to be felt again
I demand the happiness
That fills the silent darkness
The only sound the echo of what once was
With the stars that dance to a symphony of controlled chaos
Spiralling towards a depthless sky
Slowly filling with a blinding yellow light
As the morning light doves
replace the fading night crickets lonely song
Cascading warmth on the iciest breaths of air
Like mornings sticky dew
I beg for the adrenaline
That rushes through my veins
Salivating on the knowledge of bloody fists
And sharply kept knives
While getting drunk
At the sight of my opponents blood
I race faster than the wind could blow
And gallop towards the future
Only a hairs breath out of reach
I write to escape the stationary black and white
Of the clocks unceasing
Twenty four hour ticking
Pounding every endless second
Like the unrelenting banging of agitated fists
To the locked door of an angered loved one
And instead delve deeper into a world teeming
With an untold abundance of gray
Where the possibilities are as boundless
As strangers that pervade my eyes
Searching for the right phrase to string together
So I can twirl it around
And call it my identity
