Why Colour? Poem by willow moon pearce

Why Colour?

Rating: 5.0

Wandering through my library the other day
I was astonished.
A new subject was Black Writers
I thought a writer was a writer
I never saw the difference.

Does it mean that we write differently?
I have been reading black poets for a long time
Enjoyed their words, I did not think of colour.

It upset me because it is a form of 'hidden racism'
Like having a get together and someone says,
'Bill and Lynette are coming over, they are black you know'.

None of this bigotry should be applied to the arts.
There is enough for a lifetime
There is enough hate
Too many people to spread it
And lastly, the last person you would expect.

Talking to black friends over this issue.

Colour has no real colour unless it has come from within. The right to be heard must be sung by everyone. You are so right Willow. We must all share the same tapestry and add our own shades and hues in the most effective and beautiful ways.Love Duncan
