Why Ask One Like Me Poem by Francis Duggan

Why Ask One Like Me

Since I am one who does not have a Literary Degree
If you want to know about poetry why ask one like me
Most experts say rhyme is a thing of the past
But few things in life ever do seem to last.

But give me the rhyme is an old fashioned song
With music that makes one want to sing along
The songs that are often sung down at the pub
Or in the barroom of the town's football club.

For good rhyming verse in poetry there ought to be place
But in the twenty first century such is not the case
As for me about poetry so little I know
Though rhyme to it does have a musical flow.

In the Literary World of the twenty first century
Most experts on literature tend to agree
That in poetry there isn't any place for rhyme
And rhymers by them condemned to the dustbin of time.
