Why Poem by C H Sund

Why

Why…
must this
flower choose
the pathway here
to make you take pause
and lovingly ponder,
knowing how fragile its perch
or how quickly a foot can tread.
Does it not know that its fate awaits?
Or does this give the flower more allure
juxtaposed among the bleakness here.
Symbol or sign to sighted ones
remembering other times,
of childhood purity.
The flower blossoms
for all to see
for it must,
its roots
bid.
