Who Will Listen To This Voice? Poem by PARTHA SARATHI PAUL

Who Will Listen To This Voice?

Rating: 5.0

O daddy, mummy, tell me
What day is my holiday?
Weekdays wear out in school classes.
All days are important even some Saturdays!

Sunday is a long day!
It`s not any better.
Daytime is eaten up by the busy coaching center.
Afternoon is too short and evening hops faster!

O daddy, mummy, tell me
When shall I play my darling guitar?
The sketch on my drawing page calls for some color.
The river is drying and missing its murmur!

I learn moral science in convent discipline.
But too stern a situation shunts my spleen!
Get up pretty early to get ready for the rush!
Doze off on a daily journey in a big yellow bus!

Exams are wolves and semesters leopards!
They keep chasing and easily catch us!
Like trapped rats we make some vain try!
Python routine crushes us and we vainly cry!

You tell me to wait till I am a big man.
Can a grown up man be a child?
Something pokes on my mind now and then.
Shall I get this age back the same as childlike wild?

O daddy, mummy, tell me
What shall I do if monotone kills me from inside?
If I go out of puff on the way
Will you spread out your hands kind?

Trough competition for getting admissions in Engineering/Medical Colleges have kept the children to remain busy at schools and in coaching centers after school. Children don't get time for extra curricular activities that is necessary for their physical and mental health. The poem is a nice description of this problem.
