Who Upholds Rights To Live? Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Who Upholds Rights To Live?

Rating: 5.0

Has one ever seen guys in camouflaged outfits,
Carrying weapons on the shoulders, in battle field
Risking being shot at, handhold and carry disabled
Donating their very next meal to starved beings
from the opposite camp, ever ready to take their lives

Carrying wounded enemy on shoulders,
Treating a wounded unknown beings, not envying
Facilitating a delivery of a baby in the wood,
Amidst fierce firing and fighting,
Pouring his life saving gulp of water
down the throat of dying enemy on his lap?

Discontinuing firing at the enemy,
rescued a wounded jumbo baby in the battle field?

What other leader or monarch in the world,
would fund the daily meal, mobility et cetera
Provide medicine and facilities meant for civilians
for the wounded enemy, with a humane feeling?

Heeding to cry of a human, though from enemy
Offering a special medical care to a leader
Eventually, recuperating and revitalizing enemy
to live in peace and harmony with the rest?

Where, in the world, would a soldier of heroism
Fought gallantly ruthless terrorism
Breaking its back bone rescued a nation
In a little island in Indian ocean
Granting the right for every body else to live,
Live in peace, harmony and dignity
being charged for human rights violation,
By a global body, ordained by very same nations
to safeguard against human mayhem?
