Who I Am Poem by Nina Dringo

Who I Am

I am someone
Who laughs for no reason
Who dances in the rain
Who cries for starving children.

I am someone
Who wishes on stars
Dreams of futures
That will never be mine
Savors each wisp of a cloud
Because it will never return.

I am someone
Who wants a better life
For everyone on the planet
Food and water
Games and knowledge
Shelter and someone who loves them.

I am someone
Who loves without
Observing the consequences
Sails high in the sky
And crashes
To the sandy ocean floor.

I am someone
Who leaves footsteps in the sand
And walks onward
Never looking back
Leaving others
To examine
What I've left behind
Parts of me
I would never notice
I was missing.
