While They Slept Poem by Julie Drost

While They Slept

While they slept the world went on
turning slowly, days long gone
birth and dying, love and hate
they slept so long, they slept so late.

When they woke the world was spent
they still don’t know just where it went,
a broken place, nowhere to go
an empty place, no way to grow.

While they slept the world went on
sang it’s story, told it’s song
tears and laughter, hope and peace
never knowing all would cease.
