Where The Blackwater Flow Poem by Francis Duggan

Where The Blackwater Flow

Rating: 5.0

The pink breasted chaffinch is singing today
Long miles north of here in the wood far away
And in the rank rushes the cock pheasant crow
In green old Duhallow where the Blackwater flow.

By sheltery hedgerows the first flowers of Spring
Are blowing in the breezes where birds chirp and sing
And swallow the wanderer flies to and fro
Above the quiet fields where the Blackwater flow.

The migrant remembers his life as a boy
In April the skylark carolled in the sky
And the memories still with him from decades ago
Of the scenic lands where the Blackwater flow.

The sparrows wove their nests of grasses and hay
And the robin he sang at the dawn of the day
And the dark brown dipper with breast white as snow
Sang on rock midst the rapids where the Blackwater flow.

Far north of here where his life's journey began
In green old Duhallow where he grew to a man
The first flowers of Spring in the rain and wind blow
In the meadows and fields where the Blackwater flow.
