Where Have All The Poets Gone. Poem by Juan Olivarez

Where Have All The Poets Gone.

Rating: 5.0

Where have all the poets gone,
Not even shades remain.
The new age has just picked their bones,
Free verse comes down, like acid rain.

Eugene Field, De La Mare, and Poe,
Emily, Edna, Browning and, Yeats.
Wizards with words I came to know,
These were truly poetry's greats.

Poetry used to mean fine art,
And poets took pride in their lines.
But free verse made poetry depart,
Free verse has clouded many minds.

Gone are the days when you could recite,
Eldorado to a cheering crowd.
Now poets are angry, spoiling for a fight,
Screaming their free verse, oh so loud.

They say all good things come back around,
I hope so for my sake.
Cause in free verse I'm about to drown,
In a giant free verse lake.
