Where Do We Stand Among Them?

Rating: 5.0

During an amble through the wood
in the middle of rustling leaves
a story I heard of a wolf
that hated not the puppy, but loved

Like a metaphor it appeared to me, hard to imagine.
the moment had gone, when I last heard the story.

A pack of wolf was hunting for their meal
when suddenly a puppy, they stumbled upon
happily all reacted wild, for at least one will have a good meal
so the story was told.

In this ferocious forest where the law is survival of the fittest
amidst of these wild wolves, there came a wild love walking,
in curiosity a great wise wolf of wisdom, the love on motion
apparently the leader of the pack
neared the puppy with uncanny gestures of a mother
gently bent forward kissing the puppy’s forehead.

Not a wolf from the pack understood
what sort of behavior their leader manifested,
to obey the command is the loyalty wanted in the animal world
what the leader say that one must do, what the leader does that one must follow
it is a law that governs the fraternity among the fierce warriors of the wild.

The puppy, deprived of food in famine for days
it was left, it seemed all alone in the coldness of the forest
none knows the fate of the mother nor the siblings
but assumption goes to point at other wild beasts,
might have broken the pack apart
leaving the puppy in lonely painful sleep and whine.

The great wise wolf of wisdom in loving look communicated in wisest language
“worry not, we are no strangers but a family deceived by looks”
“we shall look after you for days to come with promises, we won’t do any harm”
thus a language of heart trespassed the others, making the puppy relieved a little.

A message was sent to the wildest among the pack
for an immediate command to be executed with love to save the puppy
swiftly the wolves gathered around the puppy, pressing close all around
the fire that heats them from within they shared lovingly with the puppy
so the cold won’t become an excuse for the dead of a puppy,
stranded far away from its family.

Wise indeed the leader wolf
in every way it thinks of only to save the puppy
he summoned the right man to call for a mother wolf who has just given birth
the rush began with the howl, all the wolves went in search of the mother
hearing the call, instantly the mother arrived
leaving behind its beautiful pack of six
to answer the command of a leader, so wise and loving.

It wondered why it was summoned to look at a puppy
which is not of its blood origin,
the wise one commanded her to go a step further
to feed the puppy the milk of her body,
in hesitation it stood awhile,
thinking the leader is no more wise
to give an order of such nature to feed a potential meal
and deprive a wolf of its hearty meal.

But, though hesitant,
it took it as a challenge not to disobey the old wolf’s command
because down within, the mother wolf knew
the leader surely has some obscured reason behind the game.
it half heartedly placed itself before the puppy
the puppy welcomed its new mother with gentle embrace
with its mouth on the nipples,
suckling the nipples with eyes closed,
the puppy regained the heat and energy lost.

With occasional yowl of disapproval, the mother wolf lies perplexed
“what is this all about, my master the great wise wolf of wisdom”?
“please guide me to understand this phenomenon of strangest action”

The great wise wolf of wisdom answered,
“today we are here to learn, there exist a great bond called love
not just among us but between those of different blood as well”
“the puppy is meek and weak, and though its of another look
it suffers the same as we do and its hunger the same as ours”
“you the mother of six, take this one and make it seven”
“be proud that you mothered six out of our blood,
but never forget your motherhood added another one of different kind
so that you may learn that love is same to one and all”.

The mother wolf was annoyed
and she walked away in silent discontent
but was stopped halfway by the great wise wolf of wisdom
“mother wolf, please don’t forsake him, from now onwards he is ours”
“take him with you, if not eat him without a scent left behind”

So, the mother wolf said to herself,
“if I take him back, I’ll have to raise him long”
“if I eat him, my hunger shall be eased now”

It was about to scratch open the flesh
when the puppy in cold reached for its feet
the motherhood that mother wolf gave away through her milk
came rising like tsunami, not destructive but protective,
she regurgitated her love uncontrollably for the puppy
then in awareness renewed
she understood the message given by the great wise wolf of wisdom.

The great wise wolf of wisdom rejoiced at the sight of new hope for its kind
where the mother wolf in tears licked the puppy to heal the evil within.

The great wise wolf of wisdom counseled again with mellowed voice of a sage
“mother wolf, we are evolving. That’s what is wanted by nature.”
“we are evolving higher and embraced some high values
that once in possession of so called civilized mankind.
we have acquired values of highest order the day we shed our enmity with the rest
and fast ourselves before our meal – the puppy”
“I am happy. we are evolving”

But in sad tone, he said again something of mankind
“man used to be on high pedestal
but there have demeaned themselves
and lower they are becoming”
“they kill their own
they rape their own
they destroy their own
yet they brag about love”
“sad to say, we have risen with humanity
while the human are acquiring some of our beastly qualities”

“mother, I am proud of you.
from now I know they shall be another wolf in our pack”

“don’t be sad mother wolf”
“if a meal we are after make us think awhile in great pondering”
“know you that, its not meant for us to eat, but to help it to survive”
“when its meant for us to eat, we won’t think we’ll just eat to fill”.
“for the Great One surely won’t let us fast for long”
