जब आप बूढ़े होंगे

जब आप बूढ़े होंगे, बाल सफेद और पलकें नींद से बोझिल होंगी,
और आग के समीप बैठ, इस किताब को उठायेंगे,
धीरे से फिर पढ़ेंगे उसको, सोचते हुये उन कोमल नज़रों वाली
पहली सी उन आँखों और उनकी गहरायी के बारे में;
हर्ष भरे वो तुम्हारे लम्हें कितनों ने अपनाये थे दिल से,
और प्यार करते आपकी उस सुंदरता से- झूठमूठ या सचमुच में ही,
लेकिन कोई था जिसने तुम्हारे शुद्ध अंतःकरण को प्यार किया,
और तुम्हारे चेहरे पर अंकित दुखों को अंगीकार किया;
और चमकीले से डंडों पर ही वह कुछ झुका झुका सा,
बुदबुदाने लगता था वेदना से, अंत प्यार का हुआ तो कैसे
और पहाड़ की ऊँचाईयों पर वह चढ़ने लग जाता
और तारों की भीड़ में अपना चेहरा छिपा लिया करता.
Rajnish, I don't read Hindi, so I can't comment on your translation, but When You Are Old is one of my very favorite poems. I have singled it out as one of my five favourites in my Poetry-Lover's Guide to the World-Wide Web, Pre-1950.
I know that you cannot comment on my translation but the fact that we both have a liking for this poem of W B Yeats puts us in the same league. Thanks a lot, Lucius.
