WHEN THINGS ARE NOT GOING RIGHT


When things are not going right
When every sign is bad
When one's mind turns every future possibility
Into a threat-
When it all seems as if Disaster is the only future
When one is empty inside and yet so heavy one cannot take the smallest step
When to do the most ordinary simple thing is impossibly difficult
When there is no hope and no way out and nothing to be done

Then almost always in some small way
Often through the call and connection of another person
One begins to see a bit of light
And from that light slowly and haltingly
Move to belief in one's own life again-
