When The Wind Is Strong Poem by Juan Olivarez

When The Wind Is Strong

When the wind is strong,
And the leaves blow by,
Trash cans blow over,
Dust is in your eyes.

Your hair blows around,
Every which way.
And you look like a mop,
By the end of the day.

Birds cancel their flights,
And hide in the trees.
This is some kind of gale,
Not some gentle breeze.

Then the best place there is,
To locate a smile,
Is with a book and your bed,
Curled up like a child.
