When The Heart Skips A Beat Poem by Danusha Marie

When The Heart Skips A Beat

When the heart skips a beat
Is it love or fear it feels
Both, perhaps at once it seems
It calls for something, in fact it screams

Words escape and feelings whirl
The mind is tousled
Emotions flit and fleet
Making it hard to be steady on your feet

What action to take now that he sees
You've looked at him and flushed is your face
The universe sent you this crazy nudge
Do you approach or do you judge

Moments like this come rare indeed
Handful in a lifetime if lucky you are
Will you listen and leap
Or walk away and weep

I took the leap once, unexpectedly
For the skip of the beat was blaringly loud
Caught up in the excitement of something new
No time to waste deciding what to do

His heart must have spoken to him as well
For his smile and touch were nervously attractive
Then a rise welled within, a chance not to miss
So as I spoke he swooped in for the kiss

My life has changed with experiences rich
My hope is renewed and an energy lit
Whatever the future I'm happier today
Because we listened to what our hearts had to say
