When Jesus Came A Preaching Poem by Don Dickenson

When Jesus Came A Preaching

When Jesus came a preaching,
with a laugh, a joke, or word of cheer.
He was ready, with the folks so poor,
to shed a gentle tear.

He knew the ones who'd listen,
to the message He would bring,
That Father planned for nobody's,
to be children of the King.

At last they came to take him.
Out of envy, so they say,
the clever priests and rulers cried
“this fellows in the way”.

“He causes humble, lowly folk,
to think, and question, US!
we'll do him in- yes - we'll do him in,
but do it without fuss”.

So they got some Roman soldiers,
to nail him to a tree,
never knowing who he was,
or that he suffered there for me,

Do you think that Jesus liked it,
having nails through hands and feet?
'course He didn't, no more than you,
but He made the job complete.

“It's finished Father” Jesus cried,
Gave up his spirit, then He died.

God loved the world so much,
the holy book declares
His only son he freely gave,
our every sin he bears.

Through him alone, salvation comes.
The way, the truth, the life.
He only, peace can give,
delivering us from strife
