When His Ship Comes In Poem by Sam Pendlebury

When His Ship Comes In

When his ship comes in, he would say
I will buy you the world, diamonds and pearls
you'll will see, when my ship comes in
Foolish man can't you see, yet another empty promises,
But no longer for me
Forget the diamond and pearls
A meal you can not even buy me this day
He new deep inside this to be true
And for this his heart did break
For he works night and day, but his ship he never sees
Till late one night a voice he did hear
My son all ships do come in, not always the same cargo
You see I sent you two beautiful children to love and protect
That was one ship that came in
I gave you love, compasion and understanding for others
That yet another ship
And yet still I gave you the strength to stand without the help
of silver and gold
You see I give silver and gold to those in need
To the rest a place here by my side
