When He's Not Here Poem by Lora Colon

When He's Not Here

Rating: 4.8

Darkness is falling rapidly,
The silent hours draw near,
The hours when tears flow easily....
And still my love does not appear

Quietly comes the loneliness.....
Loneliness makes no sound,
It makes its presence known by tears
Of those who by love's chains are bound

I curse the silent lonely hours
That take my love from me,
While my heart rests, my spirit roams,
Searching for him relentlessly

Who gave loneliness such power?
It shouts in exultation,
May it perish in gales of hope!
This vile bane of man's creation

God bless the heart that will not rest
When night's long hours are bleak,
The hues of loneliness grow pale
With the fortitude of the weak

And loneliness will taste defeat
When morning's rays appear,
The dreadful nights.... just memories,
When at last, my darling is here!
